Nb d'habitants: 2569 Regional capitol, Quissac is a center of activities from a commercial point of view as well as cultural and athletic (tennis, swimming pool, nonprofit groups, etc). Its Wednesday morning market nits the local farmers and merchants. It is an important moment for the valley's villages. The establishment of Quissac dates to the Middle Ages. From that time, there is the heritage of the Viele - an old quarter that is located in a site already inhabited by the Romans. When life came back to the plain in the 14th through the 18th centuries, the town grew up huddled around its old center and its church. In the 19th century, the growth of the vineyards caused the town economy to open to a regional contact with all of France. In the the 1870's, further growth was encouraged by the arrival of trains, and a second village center was established in a site known as Camp Neuf. On September 17, 1999, the village was colored green and white, the Italian colors of Civitella Paganico, town of 3500 people in Tuscany, that became at that time sister city of Quissac. After the traditional signing ceremonies and exchange of gifts, the two mayors planted a micoucoulier tree, symbol of the friendship that now unites the two towns.
