SAUVE
|
Nb d'habitants: 1836 The village, known as the capital of the Salavès still keeps numerous testimonies of medieval times. Its high districts merge into the karstic rocks of the so called Sea of Rocks and are dominated by the relics of the old Bermond's castle, prince and Satrape of Sauve. This natural site possesses enchanting sceneries, propitious to walks, among stones and vegetation : green oaks and laurels have replaced cherry trees and micocoulier, which , formerly, used to form, thanks to this wild nature, small and luxuriant gardens. The lower parts of Sauve's districts reflect in the Vidourle river, which is underground from Saint Hippolyte Du Fort to Sauve and rises again from the place called Les Sources, an impetuous reappearance on the foot of Sauve's rocks. The numerous alleys of the village lead us to some shaded places and heavy doors that hide wonderful treasures. The so-called Cazernes were built in the 17th Century and were used as a shed for the dragons of the king. Nowadays it's in this building that holds the famous conservatory of the hayfork, called Fanabrègue and its manufacture made of micocoulier wood. This tradition has been known for over 800 years and remains unique in Europe. Contact : www.lafourchedesauve.com e-mail : fourchedesauve@hotmail.fr
